Helios Structures Sale of 144-Bed Skilled Nursing Facility, 29-Bed Early Education Day Care Center in Massachusetts

Chicago, Illinois – Helios is pleased to announce its role is structuring the sale of a 144-bed skilled nursing facility and 29-Bed Early Education Day Care Center in Wrentham, Massachusetts.

Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (“Maples” or the “Facility”) was a family-run skilled nursing and Early Education Day Care Center that operated in Norfolk County for the past 60 years. Maples maintained a storied history of high-quality care and one of the best reputations in the local market and broader Massachusetts skilled nursing industry. After navigating the COVID-19 pandemic successfully, the original family that founded Maples in 1963 decided it best to exit the industry.

Helios was engaged to run a process to arrange and structure a transaction with an acquirer whose values aligned with those of the Maples organization. Helios ran a completive process which brought some of the largest owner/operators and investors in New England into the process. Southborough Massachusetts based Alliance Health & Human Services was ultimately selected and took over operations September 1, 2022.

At the time of the transition, Maples occupancy sat at 95%+ with a quality mix north of 40%. 

“This was a unique assignment to handle”, said Helios Managing Director Mario Santiago. “The regulatory approval process while seamless, involved three different licensure/permit approval including the SNF license, child day care center license, and a DEP wastewater treatment permit assignment. There was also an existing HUD loan on the facility that added a layer of complexity to the timing of the closing. The parties all worked closely through these hurdles to effectuate a timely and seamless closing. We are excited for all involved.”
